Heat Pump Advantages

Heat pumps work by moving heat from one place to another using a compressor and liquid or gas refrigerant. The benefits of this design means the system uses less electricity than traditional HVAC systems, and it can reverse its cycle to act like an air conditioner in the summer.

Another advantage heat pumps have over HVAC systems is that you typically don’t need to pair this system with a heater or air conditioner since it functions as both. Lastly, heat pumps are perfect for residents who want to make their homes more environmentally friendly.

Common Heat Pump Problems

A heat pump is like any other appliance, which means they’re prone to issues now and again. Here are the most common heat pump problems you may encounter, and when you need to call a heat pump repair service for help.

  • HEAT PUMP DOESN’T COME ON – Sometimes, your heat pump fails to kick on and there are several reasons this can happen. Thermostat problems, power loss, broken starter capacitor, or a broken reversing valve are all potential culprits when your heat pump won’t start up.
  • NO HEAT – Another common problem is when the heat pump doesn’t put out heat when in heating mode. Sometimes, airflow to the unit is blocked by snow, ice, leaves, or other debris. Another issue that many people overlook is the air filter. A dirty air filter blocks airflow to the compressor, causing the system to fail. Lastly, if the refrigerant levels are too low your heat pump won’t be able to bring in enough heat to do its job.
  • NO COLD AIR – Opposite the above problem, sometimes your heat pump fails to deliver cold air when in cooling mode. This problem is often caused by issues with the thermostat, dirty components, or a broken reversing valve.
  • HEAT PUMP RUNS CONTINUOUSLY – Much like an HVAC system, sometimes the heat pump won’t shut off during a cycle.

If you experience any of the issues above, call a heat pump repair service.
